The 40th Big Match between Ambalangoda's Dharmasoka College and Devananda College will be played on March 18-19, at Amblangoda UC grounds, said Hemapala Warusavithana, the General Secretary of the Devananda Old Boys' Association.
He was addressing the press conference held last Sunday at Urawatta Sea Breeze Hotel to brief the media on the performances related to the 120th anniversary celebrations of the Devananda College.
"The 40th Big Match between these two colleges, New Year celebrations of the Devananda students, Vesak Sil campaign and Bhaktigeetha recital, to commemorate 2550th Buddha Jayanthi year, granting of excellence awards to Devananda past distinguished pupils, colours night to pay homage to staff, 'Devananda Mela' to exhibit student skills with a Salpila, are events included as part of the celebrations to mark the 120th year of Devananda," he said.
Devananda College Principal, H. M. Sumatipala speaking said that, Devananda and Dharmasoka Colleges reigned supreme in cricket in the past, and need media support to make the event a success. "Good name of schools depends on the good performances of the 22 players at the match," he said.
He also commended the Commercial Leasing Company's financial support given to make the event a success. He requested the media support in that connection.
Dharshan Silva, Assistant General Manager, Commercial Leasing, said that the CLC decided to support both colleges taking into consideration their supremacy in the field of education in the past and present.
CLC hopes to continue further in that direction, as it is a bounden duty of a company to assist and support social events in the country," he said.
