Sri Lanka to get UN Security Council Membership ..? 21 October 2009 09:20 am Asha Nanayakkara, SINHALAYA News Agency, Colombo, Sri Lanka : Sri Lanka may be elected to be the successor of Japan for the ‘non-permanent’ seat on the UN Security Council from the Asian Group, though it is not confirmed yet. Japan, the current holder of the Asian Group's 'non-permanent' seat's term supposed to end on 2010 and Sri Lanka may acquire the place if elected. On 14th December 1955 Sri Lanka, then “Ceylon” became a member of United Nations. During 1960 to 1961 Sri Lanka seated in the Security Council.
