Election Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has decided to hold the upcoming North Western and Central provincial council election on the Valentine's Day of 2009.

The deadline for accepting nominations has already ended and most of the political parties have planned to commence their election campaigns today.

The election will be held to elect 56 representatives for Central provincial council and 50 representatives for the North Western provincial council. A total of 2247 nominations have been accepted by election commissioner to contest for these 106 seats.

The dates for the postal voting are yet to be announced.
