Lecture by Prof. M.S. Swaminathan

PROF. M.S. Swaminathan, Chairman, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai is scheduled to deliver a lecture in Colombo on "Towards an Evergreen Revolution in Agriculture" on Tuesday, December 13 at 5.30 p.m. at Auditorium, Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies, BMICH, Colombo 7.

The Lecture will be held under the aegis of India-Sri Lanka Foundation which is an inter-governmental trust set up by the Governments of India and Sri Lanka to foster bilateral relations through the enhancement of economic, scientific, educational, technical and cultural, cooperation, states an India-Sri Lanka Foundation press release.

Professor M.S. Swaminathan has been acclaimed by TIME magazine as one of the twenty most influential Asians of the 20th century and one of the only three from India, the other two being Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore.

He has been described by the United Nations Environment Programme as "the Father of Economic Ecology". He was Chairman of the UN Science Advisory Committee set up in 1980 to take follow-up action on the Vienna Plan of Action.
