CMSC-Land Rover Rally
« on: March 16, 2006, 09:04:21 AM »
The Land Rover Owners Club (LROC) in Association with Frontier Automotive (Pvt.) Ltd. will sponsor a motor rally to be held on March 26. The rally organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club is open to members of the CMSC and the LROC.

The rally is open to cars and SUVs and will be around Colombo and its outskirts. The organiser of the event, the CMSC hopes the event will attract a new group of participants.

The event aims to provide a fun day out for the family, giving them a taste of competitive motor sport. The CMSC and the Land Rover Owners Club hope that this event will attract around 50 competitors.

Niroshan Perera of the CMSC said that the rally was not geared only for 4wd vehicles. He went on to say, "All you need to take part in the event is vehicle with 4 wheels, a wife, a couple of kids, or some friends who will have fun plotting their way on an unseen route going through picturesque parts of the country, answering whimsical questions along the way, and endeavouring to keep to the average speeds set by the club at all times.

The rally is set at speeds in keeping with the country's high way code and hence is not an all out speed event."

Manjula Seelanathakuruppu and Sathi Watson of the Land Rover Owners Club mentioned that the events they generally organised were rather hard core and heavy duty off-roading events.

This one is more family and fun oriented Seelanathakuruppu hopes that all the active members of the Club will take part in this event and use it as a means of broadening their skills in the motor sporting arena.

The sole agent for Land Rover in Sri Lanka, Frontier Automotive (Pvt.) Ltd. will be inviting a host of its customers to compete in this event, thus showcasing a range of Land Rovers from the newest to the oldest in the country.

Entries for the event are available at the Ceylon Motor Sports Club office at 4, Hunupitiya Road, Colombo 2 and can be collected from Thanuja. Entries will also be available at Frontier Automotive (Pvt.) Ltd. Entries close at 5 p.m. on 20th March.

A drivers briefing for the event will be held on March 21 at 5.30 p.m. at the Land Rover showroom 271, Galle Road, Colombo 3.
