Lankan aged 7, wins International art contest

The winner of the Unilever International School's Art Project, Sasini Navoda Wickrematunga aged 7, participated in the 3 day educational programme which commenced from Wednesday 29 March 2006 in London.

On the 30th March all the guests gathered at Tate Modern, one of the world's leading galleries for contemporary art to celebrate the work of young artists from around the world. The young artists, who visited London, represented their countries in the culmination of the Unilever International Schools Art Project. There were young artists from 14 countries around the world including Mexico, China, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Russia, Zimbabwe, USA and the UK among the gathering at this event.

The CEO of Unilever Patrick Cescau, hosted the special celebration at Tate Modern where the children's art works were exhibited. They had a fantastic evening lined up with some inspirational speakers and a very engaging audience.

During this short period of 3 days, all of them had a wonderful opportunity to visit so many important places in London and to participate in many educational activities which they have never experienced before.

A breathtaking cruise and dinner on the River Thames, a visit to Tower of London, an educational session at the Museum of London, visit to Roman London Gallery and workshop on archaeological digging at a archaeological corner, an opportunity to walk around Tate Modern and to visit the Tate shop and they were lucky to fly on amazing London Eye - Millennium Wheel and witnessed the beauty of the London.

This unforgettable week ended up with a fantastic farewell dinner for the children at the Corus Hotel Hyde park. Everyone was overwhelmed and they were talking very happily about this global event and the golden opportunity they got.

UISAP allows us to reinforce our corporate message about creativity and vitality to international audiences through encouraging young people to create their own art.
