Series of Pinkamas

 A series of Pinkamas will be held at the Sri Sanghamitta Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo 10 from today (May 4) till Vesak Poya day to mark the 2550 Sri Sambuddha Jayanthi. Western Province Chief Minister Reginold Cooray will unveil a new Buddha statue installed at the school premises at 10 a.m. today (May 4) as part of this pinkama.

The Buddha statue has been installed under a project sponsored by the Principal and the Parent Teacher association of the school. A statue of Sri Sanghamitta therini will also be brought from the Sri Lanka Pirivena (Ode Pansale) Maradana and installed at the school premises on this day.

Director General Political and Trade Union Affairs, Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, Provincial Minister Hector Bethmage, Renuka Perera and Ajantha Liyanage will also participate in these ceremonies.

An all night pirith chanting will also be held today followed by a sanghika dana tomorrow (May 5) to mark the occasion.

On May 11 students of Sri Sanghamitta Vidyalaya will participate in a mass sil Campaign to mark Vesak Poya. There will also be a series of meditation and dhammadesana programs, a pahan pinkama and a Vesak lantern exhibition as part of this pinkama on May 11.
