Question - I face a lot of harassment from my husband. My husband always beats me and scolds me. I also have a child. I wish to know in case I ask for a protection order under the Domestic Violence Act, for how long will the protection order be valid?

Answer - The Court will decide the duration of the order. It depends on the circumstances of the case. An Interim Order is valid only for 14 days. A permanent order can initially be imposed for a maximum period of 12 months.

However, it can be extended, amended, varied, modified or revoked on application made by the either party and after hearing of both parties.
