WikiLeaks & SRI LANKA       -      "A LEGITIMATE RESPONSE TO UNPROFESSIONAL DIPLOMACY"

As you all know, Wikileaks recently released US diplomatic confidential briefings exchanged between the State Department in Washington and the embassies in other countries throughout the world. Among them, there are many cables exchanged between the State department of Washington and the American embassy in Sri Lanka.
According to Wikileaks, the US diplomatic body in Sri Lanka and other interested parties had acted with anger, hatred trying to settle their political scores against Sri Lanka and have given no room for the truth.
Consequences of this unacceptable behavior, are now experienced by the Sri Lankans; for a crime which they have not created. As a matter of fact, they have a right to speak against this injustice.

This segment - "a legitimate response to unprofessional diplomacy" takes facts one by one providing a true insight to the issue and speaks to the whole world on Sri Lankans’ behalf.

Wikileaks and Sri Lanka (Acceptable & Unacceptable War Crimes)

2010-12-24
- Butenis defines acceptable war crimes by SL forces and unacceptable war crimes by LTTE terrorists..

The SINHALAYA News Agency, Colombo, Sri Lanka:
America Ambassador for Sri Lanka - Patricia Butenis accuses Sri Lankan troops on war crimes while cunningly slipping over the matter of the war crimes which the LTTE terrorists truly committed. Furthermore, she complains her State Department against the Sri Lankan Government for holding the ex-LTTE terrorists for prosecution and doubts how they can accept the charges internationally!
Following is the particular confidential cable which she has sent to the State Department depicting a totally distorted image on Sri Lanka.

2. (S) Accountability for alleged crimes committed by GSL troops and officials during the war is the most difficult issue on our bilateral agenda. (NOTE: Both the State Department Report to Congress on Incidents during the Conflict and the widely read report by the University Teachers for Human Rights (Jaffna) also detailed many incidents of alleged crimes perpetrated by the LTTE. Most of the LTTE leadership was killed at the end of the war, leaving few to be held responsible for those crimes. The Government of Sri Lanka (GSL) is holding thousands of mid- and lower-level ex-LTTE combatants for future rehabilitation and/or criminal prosecution. It is unclear whether any such prosecutions will meet international standards. END NOTE.) There have been some tentative steps on accountability on the GSL side. Soon after the appearance of the State Department report, President Rajapaksa announced the formation of an experts’ committee to examine the report and to provide him with recommendations on dealing with the allegations. At the end of the year, the president extended the deadline for the committee’s recommendations from December 31 until April. For his part, General Fonseka has spoken publicly of the need for a new deal with the Tamils and other minorities. Privately, his campaign manager told the Ambassador that Fonseka had ordered the opposition campaign to begin work planning a “truth and reconciliation” commission (ref B).

In this confidential cable, even though she Butenis has accepted that there are reports and evidence about the war crimes and Human Rights violations committed by the LTTE terrorists, but she seem to be either neglecting or not considering them as vital. Her only point here is “Sri Lankan troops committed war crimes”!
On what basis is she accusing so?
To accuse Sri Lankan troops on such fake issue whose contract she is carrying out?

There are few questions for madam Butenis;
Where on this earth is documented about “acceptable and unacceptable crimes”?
According to her, if the prosecution is unacceptable, then the person has not committed any crime ? She is just talking mere rubbish going by Hilary Clinton’s style, who once shamelessly said there are good and bad terrorists. Let’s refrain from taking about the political shamelessness and personal shame of Hilary Clinton.

For your kind information madam, LTTE terrorists were the most ruthless terrorists this globe ever had. And we have concrete evidence against the war crimes committed by them. Numerous suicide bombings, massacres, keeping people as Human shields are only a few. Amidst this she is questioning the International standardization of them?

Who is she to question it ?
As if their troops are super clean. Madam Butenis, blood is on America’s hands, not on our troops. They are the most dedicated and professional troops in the world neatly conducted even a rescue operation at the last laps of the Wanni Humanitarian Mission to get the innocent civilians released from the LTTE terrorists’ grip!

Now as per your measurements, is it only Al Qaeda and Taliban who do bad crimes? What have your troops are been doing in Afghanistan and Iraq in the name of “war on terror”? Killing has become a game for your troops. Let’s put it in this way madam Butenis; your troops are “highly incapable of targeting or else they are afraid of Al Qaeda and Taliban”! That’s the truth. First of all finish off the mess you created in Afghan and Iraqi lands.
Then come to preach us.

At the end of the Wanni Humanitarian Mission, the surrendered and captured LTTE terrorists were detained for prosecution and rehabilitation. Hard-core LTTE terrorists were prosecuted according to the respective charges and with the other low-level LTTE terrorists, they were also rehabilitated. Most of them have been released after providing Education and Vocational training so that they can be adjusted and absorbed into the democratic stream. May be madam Butenis is not aware of the fact that so many such rehabilitated ex-LTTE terrorists were released and they are leading normal life styles as any other Sri Lankan.

Regarding the prosecutions of the detained LTTE terrorists, Patricia Butenis seem to be worrying whether those can be accepted internationally or not. America has nothing to do with this regard.

Sri Lanka has an elected government and Law and Order. The law of the country applies to every citizen equally. There is no such rule that either Sri Lanka or any other country should abide by the laws of America; America should not even think of it.

Therefore it’s better if America can mind its own business!
